At Soho Acupuncture Center in NYC, Diem Truong, L.Ac., a licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, creates Chinese herbal formulas tailored to each person. Herbs are selected for your needs and cooked fresh in-house, with no capsules or powders.
How It Works
- Evaluation. Diem reviews your health and goals in a 30-minute herbal consultation ($90). Returning clients with a formula can skip this step.
- Your formula. He creates a formula for you, or recommends one of the formulas below.
- Fresh cooked. Your herbs are cooked in-house and individually packed as a 1-week supply ($170).
- Twice a day. Take one dose in the morning and one in the evening, typically over one to two weeks. Diem can adjust your formula as you go.
Why Fresh-Cooked Herbs
Diem comes from a family of practitioners. His father practiced for fifty years and ran an herbal pharmacy in New York’s Chinatown, so he grew up around these herbs.
Before You Start
Herbs can interact with medications and may not be right for everyone. Tell Diem about your health conditions and anything you take, and talk with your doctor if you are pregnant, nursing or being treated for a medical condition. Herbal formulas do not replace medical care.

How much does it cost?
A 30-minute herbal consultation is $90, and a 1-week supply of herbs is $170.
How do I take the herbs?
Your herbs are cooked in-house and individually packed. Take one dose in the morning and one in the evening, following Diem’s directions.
How long will I need to take them?
It depends on you and what you are working on. Many formulas are taken for one to two weeks, and Diem can adjust your formula as you go.
What do they taste like?
Many traditional Chinese herbal formulas taste bitter or earthy, and the taste varies by formula.
Can I take herbs with my medications?
Take your herbs and medications at least 5 hours apart. Some herbs can still interact with medications even when taken apart, so tell Diem and your doctor about everything you take before starting.
